I had to mess around with it too. I updated xvm-stat to 1.5 and used the one-click updater, then deleted my 8.6 folder, then reinstalled my other mods, then used the updater again.
Interestingly I installed locostans map mod separately, because I wanted the line to follow the camera and not turret, but the ghost markers no longer appeared. Hence the second update of xvm which fixed that, but I'm left with HD minimap which I'm not sure I like either.

You need to edit the mmap.xml in the 8.6 folder. You can change the circle type, distance colour, hull laser, turret laser etc Alot of mods change the same files so you need to install them in the correct order or manually edit them to contain what you want or make backups of 1st files. The flash .swf files are the main files used for minimap, dmg indicators etc and can't be edited without a flash file editor like Photoshop. Most files that u can edit are the .xml files and the .xc or xvmconfig files. I usually install xvm 1st, then other mods on top but i keep both files instead of over writing. I then manually change the files 1 by 1 so that i have a backup of original and can test each mod to see if it works. Some mods like Jimbo's sights come with extras of xvm so may overwrite other mods or config files. I personally use 4.0.0 xvm, 1.5 stat, Riskynet Contour Icons, Jimbos Crosshair, Locanstans HD minmap with last known position, Old Server Crosshair, Zoomout, Sniper extra Zoom, White Corpses, Painball Hit Markers,Kodos Enhanced Dmg PaNnel,YasenKrasen statistics Coloured messages,MaxFarPlane, Visibility Lighting mod, Dynamic Camera mod. I have attached my xvm.xc file if anyone wants to try my config out. Just keep your original so you can go back if you dont like it
Small tip for those using Locastan's minimap mod: if you want to have it display the last known position of enemy tanks, edit the mmap.xml file that comes with the mod. Search for 'last', and find a field named lastposshown or something. Change the value from false to true.
I use: - locastan's minimap (the view distance is useful for scouting) - dead white tanks (all dead tanks become white so you can better shoot at enemies hiding behind them) - jimbo corsshairs - engiands xvm config

u have to use the new version, and not start the wot program with the wot stats. that is not needed anymore, so u have to open the program just with the world of tanks normal icon (if u changed it to wot stats)
I would recommend everyone give Aslain's modpack a look, comes as an EXE installer and is customizable, most everything useful has been integrated and it is a mater of choosing your poison. It is updated very regularly so chacking in on the thread every once in a while is a good idea. forum.worldoftanks.eu/index.php?/topic/35125-0810-aslains-xvm-mod-v329-upd-18012014/
To owners of weak pc's, but i'm pretty sure if you've got a weak pc like me you already know about that, I can strongly recommend LowResAllInOne modpack (http://forum.worldoftanks.com/index.php?/topic/129209-0810-lowresallinone-mod-pack-updated/). Lets me run my WoT quite fluently at 640x480. From the topic:
"The purpose of the LowResAllInOne mod pack collection is not to change the game experience but rather to make the game experiencable on older computers and laptops. The best way to increase FPS is to battle at the lowest resolution supported by your hardware. However, the default HUD is far too cluttered to be useful at low resolution. These modifications provide a clean interface for better FPS on older computers (like mine)."
